Joy-filled moments. Sheer exhaustion. Hearing my toddler learn new words. I find myself dreaming of slipping away to my local coffee shop to find a quiet corner and read Chasing Slow. It’s been nearly a year and I’ve only read a handful of its pages. I ache for longer moments to simply be, to quiet myself and bring my heart to Jesus.
Opportunities to come away and be refreshed can seem elusive in our fast paced communities. The constant demands and pressures are real and often hard to bear up under. Our hearts crave rest in the midst of our realities. The words of Jesus in Matthew 11:18, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest,” invite us and resonate with our longings.
Seeing a women’s conference happen locally has been a dream of mine for many years. I have a vision for encouraging and nurturing rest and refreshment in women’s lives. In the past I’ve attended various women’s retreats and have found them to be a spiritual oasis. These experiences often marked pivotal moments in my relationship with the Lord.
I’m deeply grateful to God for His leadings. Through a mutual friend I was able to talk with Judy Beachy, leader of Inspire, a women’s conference in Indiana. My conversation with her was timely, encouraging and providential. With help from my long-time friend Rachel Zehr we prayerfully formed a committee of nine ladies to aid in planning this conference. Ladies who love Jesus, who share the vision and who have a heart to serve.
We look forward to joining with YOU – our sisters in Christ – for this time of refreshment.
